The social services provided as a Complex of specialized social services in the towns of Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad and Svilengrad are:

Informing and counselling people who are victims of domestic violence, or victims of trafficking in human beings, perpetrators of violence and other groups at risk about existing options for overcoming the problems they face

The aim is to provide a safe space where the victim can share their experiences, minimising the impact of the violence they have experienced.

Advocacy and mediation 

As part of the service, an officer accompanies the victim to the institution/organisation to which he/she is referred, assists him/her in communicating with various institutions.

Support and care activities for service users are dependent on their specific needs and oriented to their best interests and may include:

"Therapy and rehabilitation" of people victims of domestic violence, or victims of human trafficking, perpetrators of violence and other groups at risk of existing opportunities to overcome the problems encountered. It is a set of different activities to develop, restore, maintain or improve social skills, communication, resolution of emotional conflicts, behaviour management, reduction of anxiety, improvement of self-esteem, work opportunities, etc., as well as socialisation activities for persons at high risk of social exclusion.

The Foundation offers Bulgarian language courses, levels A1 and A2 for refugees in Stara Zagora; job-search assistance

Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration

Through the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Program (AVRR), IOM assists you to return to your country of origin.

Assistance for human trafficking survivors

Human trafficking is when someone uses force, threat, deception or similar methods to force a person into labor, sexual exploitation, begging or committing crimes.

Victims of human trafficking can be women, children and men of all ages.

Services for people fleeing the war in Ukraine 

In response to the crisis in Ukraine, IOM Bulgaria provides the following types of support:

Legal, social and psychological support

  • Legal counseling
  • Social support
  • Psychological counseling
  • Referrals for services
  • Transport to services (social services, hospitals, visits to doctors/specialists, etc.) and interpretation during these visits (This service is provided based on a needs assessment) 

Language classes

IOM conducts Bulgarian language classes for people fleeing the war in Ukraine for the levels A1 and/or A2. 

The classes are appropriate for migrants who are residing legally in Bulgaria as well as for asylum seekers and people who have received international protection in the country.

The training consists of 120 academic hours and each participant receives a Bulgarian language proficiency certificate for the relevant level after successfully passing an exam at the end of the course.
